Cocke County High School Youth Baseball Camp (video)
April 25th 2009, CCHS Baseball field.
Around 35 young baseball players from around the county met at the Cocke County High School baseball field for some training on fielding, throwing, catching and batting. The weather was great and the kids were excited about being on the big field and training with friends. “This is a great oppurtunity for these kids, this was our practice for today and I had ten players from my team here today, I hope they do this again” said one little league coach.
Spring Basketball
Several local middle school basketball teams participated in a tournament at Jefferson Middle School during the week end of April 16th-19th 2009. Cosby, Edgemont, Parrottsvile, and Maury middle school were some of the teams that hit the hardwood.

Former Lady Vol All-American, Monica Abbott host softball clinic.
What a thrill for Abby Proffitt of Cosby. Abby got to spend some time with University of Tennessee All-American Monica Abbott at a softball clinic for young girls. Abbott also was a starter for the U.S. National Team in the recently concluded Beijing Olympics. Abby said the clinic was great, and they got to learn skills such as hitting, pitching, fielding and base running. The clinic was hosted by Abbott and several of her teammates. Abby is the daughter of Steve and Melinda Proffitt of Cosby and the granddaughter of David and Pauline Proffitt of Newport, and Benna Kay Bradshaw of Newport and the late Bobby Bradshaw. Abby has one brother, Cody Proffitt. She is a student at Bridgeport Elementary School.
Elementary Hoops Round 9
NEWPORT-Hard to believe, but Cocke County’s elementary basketball squads have already reached the end of their seasons’ first half. And, as usual, there was no shortage of excitement.
The first-half season wrapped up on Thursday night with Del Rio playing at Smoky Mountain, Grassy Fork at home to Bridgeport, Northwest playing at Cosby and Parrottsville at home to Edgemont.
